First Walk of the Experiment: Success!

Well, I am so pleased. I am in awe of my body. My poor, poor body which has been abused for so long.

She was able to carry me for 1.25 miles today, in the rain, on the first walk I've been on in months. This is drastically different from past "first walks." Usually my shins start bothering me almost instantly, and I'm only able to walk for ten minutes at best. Today, I did almost thirty minutes and I am certain I could have done more, but I was getting soaked. :)

It was wonderful.

Never underestimate what you are capable of. You will surprise yourself.

  1. Woo hoo! Keep walking!

I am taking a pain management class and they recommend increasing any aerobic activity by a measly 10% each week to avoid strain and bounceback pain. I know you're not in the chronic pain boat but I do think it's good advice. Do you wear a pedometer? When I used to wear one regularly (cheapo one from McDonalds of all places!) I was always surprised at what a boost it was just to park a couple rows further from stores and walk that little extra. It really added up!

  2. Yay! I am soo with Jesse on the pedometer. That has really been an interesting thing for my brain. Wearing it faithfully for a long time has been a real boost for me. There is such satisfaction striving for, and seeing the 'good' numbers. :)

It makes me want to walk more, even without wearing it now. I now can grasp how beneficial every step is, how that adds up. Before my mindset was - park close, & now I can feel very good about having to park farther out, walk farther to stuff... No more circling the parking lot needed, except maybe in the rain.
